In the studio: Monotypes

I've been wanting to play around with the idea of a monotype, so today in the studio I decided to spend the day pouring paint onto pexiglass and see what I could get out of it.

It was exciting to see the different effects that would happen by tweaking the process.

I apologize for the bad instagram pictures. I am in desperate need of new studio lights as well as a new camera.

W A N T E D: Fieldguided Scarves

I stumbled on the brand Fieldguided while browsing through Etsy the other day. I love the photo print look on scarves, and dresses, and shirts...well you get the idea. And I am particularly fond of mountains and ice, some might say a little obsessed since all I paint are mountains, melting glaciers, and beaches anymore. If she would've thrown in an ocean picture, I'm pretty sure that my head would've exploded.

You can buy Fieldguided over hereEven the name is cool.

Samantha French comes to Minneapolis

My friend Samantha French was in town a week ago for her gallery opening at the wonderful Soo Visual Art Center here in Minneapolis. (For full disclosure I had a solo show there last August so I am a bit biased). Anyways, it was wonderful to catch up on old times and be inspired by some dreamy paintings.

Our friend (and also talented) Julie Jilek also made it into town for the event which made for a super fun night.

And of course we had to take a swim in the pool at my apartment building so she could snap some pictures for future use.  Unfortunately, it was cool and cloudy that day so we didn't last long. It is also why I was outside of the pool drinking my coffee when I took this picture.

You can check out more of Samantha French's work here and here

Minneapolis in the summer

Our summers are short here in Minneapolis, but we throughly enjoy every second of it. And being the land of ten thousand lakes, there is a city beach culture that seems to surprise out-of-town guests.

I m lucky enough to live right along the Greenway (it's like a freeway for bikes) and so one of my great pleasures is getting on my old ten speed and picking a lake to visit and soak up some sun.
